Our History
The Placer County Farm Bureau was established in 1912 to find solutions for ” …the farm, the farm home, and the rural community.” Today, over 100 years later, the Placer County Farm Bureau is still serving as the voice of local agriculture, by championing the industry’s success through education, outreach and political action.

There are over 1,200 farms and ranches in Placer County today. The total gross value for Placer County’s agricultural products in 2014 was $ 86,464,000. The top five agricultural crops in Placer County were:

Rice – $23,891,000

Cattle & Calves – $14,994,000

Timber – $12,145,000

Nursery Stock – $7,311,000

Walnuts – $5,758,000

Numerous other popular and specialty crops are produced in the county, including winegrapes, mandarins, produce and honey bees (apiary). Our rolling-hill landscape and semi-arid climate lend themselves to small- scale niche market production including a growing wine and brewery market. Our agriculturally beneficial environment enables our local farmers’ market system managed by PlacerGROWN to be very active and popular throughout the county.
