The Placer County Farm Bureau is a 501 (c) 5 non-profit corporation that was established in 1912 to find solutions for ” …the farm, the farm home, and the rural community.”
Today, over 100 years later, the Placer County Farm Bureau is still serving as the voice of local agriculture, by championing the industry’s success through education, outreach, and political action.
There are over 1,200 farms and ranches in Placer County today. The total gross value for Placer County’s agricultural products in 2017 was $ 58,059,000. The reduction is largely the result of a record setting wet winter and spring that led to a significant reduction in planted rice acreage. The top five agricultural crops in Placer County were:
Cattle and Calves – $9,912,000.00
Nursery Stock – $8,442,000.00
Rice – $8,315,000.00
Timber – $5,883,000.00
Walnuts – $4,847,000.00
Numerous other popular and specialty crops are produced in the county, including wine grapes, mandarins, produce and honey bees (apiary). Our rolling-hill landscape and semi-arid climate lend themselves to small-scale niche market production including a growing wine and brewery market. Our agriculturally beneficial environment enables our local farmers’ market system managed by PlacerGROWN to be very active and popular throughout the county.
The Placer County Farm Bureau office is located at 11601 Blocker Drive, STE 215, Auburn, CA. We are proud supporters of the Placer Farm Supply store was established in 1950 as an agricultural cooperative purchasing association under the auspices of the state-wide Farm Bureau organization. Today, the store affords farmers and the general public with the opportunity to purchase at competitive prices- a broad array of farm supplies, including gift items, fencing, agricultural sprays, veterinarian supplies, feed, ranch and western wear.
Placer County Farm Bureau is a part of the California Farm Bureau Federation, a statewide organization of farmers and ranchers with 53 member county Farm Bureau organizations serving 56 California Counties.
